Bai Tu Long Bay · 12 cabins · Sailing since 2013

Signature Halong for private events.

The smallest ship on our list by some distance. Twelve cabins for 24 adults, which means a party of twenty takes the whole vessel rather than most of it — and a jacuzzi bathtub in every cabin, not only the suites. Traditional junk hull, on the quiet Bai Tu Long route.

Why it works for events

Small is the entire point.

Every other ship on this list is bigger, newer or both. None of that helps a group of twenty, who on a larger vessel end up sharing it with strangers. Here they do not.

Small enough that one party takes all of it

Twelve cabins, 24 adult berths. A group of twenty books the whole ship rather than most of it — no strangers at the next table, no negotiating the sundeck. On the larger vessels that only happens at three or four times the cost.

A jacuzzi bathtub in every cabin

Not a suite upgrade — the factsheet lists it under standard room facilities, alongside the safe and the kettle. On every other ship we work with, a tub like this is reserved for the top grades.

Forty seats and a projector

The restaurant occupies the third deck with its own bar and a projector already installed. With 24 adults aboard, forty seats means the whole group sits down together with room to spare for a presentation or a speech.

Bai Tu Long, on a traditional hull

The quiet half of the bay, and a junk-style vessel with dark sails rather than the contemporary white hulls of the newer ships. It photographs like the Ha Long people picture before they arrive.

Accommodation

Twelve cabins, four grades.

From the operator's factsheet. Every one of them has a jacuzzi bathtub as standard, which is the detail that makes this ship punch above its age.

Grade Cabins Deck Size Sleeps
Junior Suite 6 1st deck 19.5–26m² 2 adults + 1 child
Senior Suite 4 2nd deck 28m² 2 adults + 1 child
Exclusive Family Suite 1 2nd deck 32m² 3 adults + 1 child
Elite Family Suite 1 2nd deck 45m² 4 adults + 2 children

The Elite Family Suite is counted as one cabin but is physically two connecting rooms with two double beds, sleeping four adults and two children — the largest space on board, and the one that solves a family travelling together. Both it and the Exclusive Family Suite have a private sun lounge; the Senior Suites have private balconies.

What is onboard

The ship, in numbers that matter.

Logistics rather than adjectives, from the operator's August 2024 factsheet.

Facts and figures

  • Opened:  2013
  • Length and beam:  52m × 10.8m, four decks
  • Cabins:  12, for 24 adults and 6 children
  • Crew:  20
  • Restaurant:  3rd deck, 40 seats, own bar and projector
  • Port:  Ha Long International Port, Ha Long City
  • From Hanoi:  169km, about 2h45m by road
  • Embark / disembark:  12:00 / 10:45

Spaces and services

  • Restaurant on the third deck with its own bar and a projector, plus corridors along the same deck for standing with a drink and a view
  • Rooftop sundeck with an outdoor bar; morning Tai Chi is held there
  • Spa offering facial, body and foot treatments — and in-room massage on request, which a ship this size can actually do
  • Cooking class making rice paper and pho rolls, night squid fishing with the catch steamed afterwards, and kayaking at Vung Vieng fishing village

Where it sails

  • Bai Tu Long Bay — Vung Vieng fishing village by kayak on the first afternoon, then Thien Canh Son and its 200 steps on the second morning
  • Not the same programme as Athena Royal, despite the shared bay — Athena Royal spends its first afternoon at Cong Do, kayaking and swimming off white sand, and reaches Vung Vieng only on its 3D2N
  • Wi-fi is weak throughout — the karsts block the satellite signal, which the operator states plainly and so do we

Need more than 24 adults in the same quiet bay? Athena Royal takes 44 and sails the same water, though not quite the same stops.

The Bai Tu Long route

Two days, and where they part from Athena Royal.

The operator's own 2D1N for this ship. On a charter of twelve cabins the whole boat is your party, so the gaps — the afternoon snack and the evening after dinner — are yours to use without negotiating for them.

2 days, 1 night — Vung Vieng and Thien Canh Son

Day one

  • 11:30  Departure. Welcome drinks aboard, then the itinerary and safety briefing from the cruise manager
  • Lunch in the restaurant as the ship leaves for Bai Tu Long Bay
  • Vung Vieng fishing village — a pearl-farming village, explored by kayak
  • Back aboard for a snack. Sunset party on deck, or a Vietnamese cooking class instead
  • Dinner, a fusion set menu. Squid fishing, karaoke or the sundeck afterwards

Day two

  • Tai Chi on the sundeck, then a light breakfast in the restaurant
  • Thien Canh Son — stalactite caverns up about 200 steps, and the beach below
  • Back aboard, and cabin check-out
  • Brunch buffet while the ship cruises back to port
  • 11:00  Return to Ha Long International Cruise Port

Two things worth knowing

  • The two Bai Tu Long ships are easy to assume identical and are not. Athena Royal spends day one at Cong Do and reaches Vung Vieng only on its 3D2N, so the second morning at Thien Canh Son is the only stop the two share
  • The operators disagree about Thien Canh Son itself: this one describes three caverns, Athena Royal's document two. Both agree on roughly 200 steps. We have not picked a side, because nothing turns on it and there is no basis for choosing

Times appear only where the operator gives them. Most of this day is published as a sequence rather than a clock — normal in this bay, where the caves are ticketed and the tenders queue — and the operator adds that the schedule can move with weather and with traffic on the way to the port. If your run of show depends on a time, tell us and we will hold it against the ship rather than against this page.

Event service

What they will and will not set up.

Worth being precise here, because it differs from the larger ships in the same group.

Bookable in advance

  • Honeymoon, birthday and anniversary packages, plus small-party set-ups on the sundeck and in the restaurant
  • Special-occasion cabin set-ups with advance notice, charged on top of the package rate
  • Decoration pre-booked rather than arranged on the day

The honest limit

  • The operator's own list for this ship stops at small parties. It does not name weddings or team building, which it does for Athena Luxury
  • That is a scale limit, not a refusal. For a ceremony of twenty on a chartered ship it is rarely a problem — for a full wedding programme, one of the larger vessels carries it better

Tell us what the day has to include and we will get it confirmed with the operator before you commit to anything, rather than assuming this page covers your case.

Reviewed and trusted

4.8 / 5 from 1,400+ reviews, and 5 more listings.

All read off the live listings on 18 September 2026, TripAdvisor by hand. Cards are ordered by how many reviews they rest on, and one of them is marked pooled because it republishes the others rather than collecting its own. Every link goes to the listing so you can read the sample yourself — and on this ship you should, for the reason set out below.

KAYAK pools the others. Its page badges its own first review "Booking.com", and that review is the same guest Booking.com shows first on its own listing. Booking's 481 plus Agoda's 375 is 856 against KAYAK's total, which is what pooling looks like. The size is real; it is not a separate opinion, so the card says so. Its breakdown is also the one figure here that does not reconcile — 1,065 against a header of 1,068 — and the lower number is what we publish.

Two caveats we would rather state than have you find. Roughly one review in ten may describe a different boat. Nine of the ten most recent match this hull, but one describes sailing "the Athena under the Signature name", and a review on Athena Royal describes a guest moved there from Signature — the operator evidently moves guests between ships. TripAdvisor's own header and list also disagree, 1,721 against 1,440; the lower figure is what we publish. And Signature Royal Cruise is a different, larger vessel from the same operator, so do not read one ship's reviews as the other's.

One number worth having before you plan anything live on board: Booking.com scores this ship 9.9 for staff and 6.6 for free wi-fi, the lowest sub-score on any listing we hold for any ship. That is independent support for what this page already says about the signal among the karsts.

Dining

Lunch comes to the table.

Signature runs its own food menus rather than the shared Athena ones, and the difference is not cosmetic: the smallest ship in the group serves day-one lunch family-style instead of as a buffet.

Day one lunch is served at the table, not from a counter

An Asian Family Set: banana flower salad with chicken, then salt-fried shrimp, clams steamed with lemongrass, sweet-and-sour squid, snapper steamed with herbs and mushroom, teriyaki chicken, bok choy, soup and pandan rice, finishing with Halong pearl yogurt. Athena Royal and Athena Luxury run a buffet at the same sitting — on a ship this size, sharing dishes suits a chartered group better.

Two named dinners across three days

The Heritage set on night one — grilled oysters two ways, Halong squid cake, seaweed soup, steamed seabass with soybean, duck breast in spicy tamarind. Then Halong by Night on night two: Caesar with grilled chicken, clam soup, salmon-stuffed squid in orange sauce, and pork ribs with Phu Quoc pepper.

Breakfast twice, and a brunch with a live pho station

Light breakfast on both mornings — a bread and pastry corner, cereals, tropical fruit and an egg station cooking to order. The final morning adds a brunch buffet with a cold corner, a hot corner, and pho made in front of you, chicken or beef.

Dietary menus shared with the sister ships

Vegetarian and Indian vegetarian, each in an individual and a group version, plus an Indian non-vegetarian set. Festive menus exist for Christmas and for both New Year seasons. These files are identical across Signature, Athena Royal and Athena Luxury.

Menus move with the season and with what the kitchen can source. Tell us the dietary requirements in your group early and we will get the current sheets from the operator, and confirm how much notice they need.

The bar

What you can actually pour.

From the operator's 2025 list. The same list serves Athena Royal and Athena Luxury — the three PDFs are byte-identical, so a guest choosing between the sister ships gets the same bar. Prices are left off deliberately; ask us for the current sheet before costing anything, and note the operator adds 10% government tax.

House wine, by the glass and the bottle

Whites run Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay from Chile and Victoria, plus a Terret-Vermentino from Languedoc. Reds are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and a Shiraz-Grenache. Every house wine is poured either way, which matters when half a table wants a glass and half a bottle.

Champagne and sparkling

A Blanc de Blancs Brut and a Moscato Rosé for something sweeter, alongside sweet and rosé wines and separate Italian and New Zealand sections. Note the operator excludes sparkling from the happy hour promotion.

Spirits and cocktails

Whisky, vodka and tequila by the shot or the bottle, aperitifs, and a long-drinks list. Buying by the bottle is usually the calmer arrangement for a group that is settling one bill at the end.

Beers, soft drinks and smoothies

A beer list, soft drinks and a fresh smoothie menu — the last one worth knowing about for a group with children aboard, or anyone on a dry event.
